Step 2: Designing the Digital Link Strategy

  • Select a Digital Link Platform

  • Creating Digital Link

    • Package design considerations must take into account the ease of both consumer scanning and point-of-sale scanning. It is realistic to assume that both 2D Digital LInk QR code and UPC/EAN barcode will be required for retailer scanning for quite some time.
    • Ensure QR codes are scannable, and adhere to branding guidelines. The latest guidelines for 2D Digitial LInk require the QR code to be positioned near the UPC barcode.

Step 3: Develop Pilot Packaging

  • Select Pilot Products
    • Choose a limited range of products to test GTIN Digital Link QR codes.

  • Develop Pilot Packaging
    • Update the packaging of pilot products to include the QR code and UPC combination.
