To correctly identify products with UPCs or EANs (GTINs), companies must license a Company Prefix from GS1. GS1 is the global identification standards body. Online marketplaces (i.e. Amazon) and retail stores around the globe need to be guaranteed unique product identifiers, and a single global numbering authority provides the foundation for that. Each country has a local GS1 office that licences GS1 Company Prefixes for their location. In the United States, companies need to license their prefix from GS1 US.
GS1 Global Support
Ever since the the first UPC was scanned on a Wrigley’s pack of gum, Bar Code Graphics has been the authority on barcode creation and implementation. We have directly or indirectly touched most suppliers in major retail stores around the globe. Whereas the GS1 Barcode Service is exclusively for companies with a US address, we do offer GS1 Global Support for non-US companies. Ironically, although product identification follows a global standard, each individual GS1 local country office has different pricing structures and processes.
GS1 Support programs include access to a dedicated consultant who will enable your company to meet the item and carton identification requirements for your trading partners. In addition to ongoing support, credit is provided for digital barcodes, and/r printed labels. Non-US clients will be required to separately obtain a GS1 Company license from their local office (click here). This can be done before or after purchasing GS1 Support.
GS1 Support programs are utilized by companies who do not have a GS1 trained employee on staff or a dedicated team to address the item and carton identification requirements for their trading partners. In addition to ongoing support by a dedicated consultant, a 100% credit is provided which can be used for digital barcodes, printed labels, or barcode testing.
